2010 Merrell’s Down & Dirty Mud Run at Folsom Was a Ton of Fun

Lots of mud, lots of athletic people crawling through mud. Fun costumes and a beautiful Fall day. Northern California’s best.

Here is some video we took yesterday. The interviews will be featured on an upcoming radio show.

Interview with Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Maggie Gee

We were fortunate enough to interview Maggie Gee at the Chinatown Mall Culture Fair on September 19, 2010.  Ms. Gee served as a civilian aviator for the U.S. Army as part of the Women Airforce Service Pilots (“WASP”) program.  Not only was Ms. Gee a female aviator, she was helping the war effort and a Chinese-American to boot.

Last year, a young person’s book about her adventure in the WASPs was published called Sky High: The True Story of Maggie Gee. The book was written by Marissa Moss and beautifully illustrated by Carl Angel. All three were interviewed for the show. Maggie Gee is said to have later gone on to become a physicist in the Berkeley area.

The date and time of the airing of this interview will be updated later. We will also have an interview about the history of the Chinatown Culture Mall Fair and moon cakes.

California Capitol Air Show Sept. 11 & 12

Few things so exciting come to Sacramento as the California Capitol Air Show.  Access Sacramento will have a presence.  Either bring a camp stool or a blanket to sit on.  There really is no place to sit out there and there is a LOT of walking.  The stationery aircraft displays are spread far apart.  Wear a hat and sleeves.  The sun is brutal.  But the roar of the engines is awesome.  Makes you proud to be an American.

Join the museum this Saturday, June 26th, to hear Dan Whitney as he presents “A Look at Aircraft Engines – Before the Computer Age”. Dan is the author of “Vee’s For Victory! The Story of the Allison V-1710″.

“Dan will discuss how designers in the slide rule age were able to produce the marvelous engines that enabled flight from the Wright Brothers to the Jet Age. This promises to be a fun and informative presentation for both young and old, for novices to “gear-heads”. Dan has a reputation for being able to make the complex understandable, and promises to minimize the technical jargon.”
